Using OptiCORE Network adapters with Windows 2000 and XP

 

To use the Intel 21143 driver which was automatically installed by Windows 2000:

 

From the desktop -

  1. Right click on “My Network Places” and select “Properties”
  2. Double click on the “Local Network Connection” corresponding to the Intel 21143 Based PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter”
  3. Select “Properties”
  4. Select “Configure”
  5. Select the “Advanced” tab
  6. Under “Property:”, highlight “Connection Type”
  7. Under “Value:” select “100BaseFx Full Duplex” or “100BaseFx” to match the port on the hub or switch where the adapter is connected.  Hubs always use “100Base Fx”.
  8. Click “OK” on the “Intel 21143 PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter Properties” dialog box
  9. Click “OK” on the “Local Area Connection Properties” dialog box.
  10. Click “Close” on the “Local Area Connection Status” dialog box.
  11. After a few moments, the “100Mbps” light should illuminate on the adapter, and the “Local Area Connection” icon in the “Network and Dial-Up Connections” should indicate a normal connection.
  12. Shut down and restart the system, and verify the “100Mbps” link light and “Activity” light on the adapter.

 

 

 

To use the Racore OptiCORE driver in place of the Intel 21143 driver which was automatically installed by Windows 2000:

 

From the desktop -

  1. Right click on “My Network Places” and select “Properties”
  2. Double click on the “Local Network Connection” corresponding to the Intel 21143 Based PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter”
  3. Select “Properties”
  4. Select “Configure”
  5. Select the “Driver” tab
  6. Select “Update Driver”
  7. In the “Upgrade Device Driver Wizard” dialog box you will be prompted with the message: “Welcome to the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard” select “Next”
  8. Select “Display a list of known drivers for this device so that I can chose a specific driver” and then click on “next"
  9. In the “Select Network Adapter” box, select “Have Disk…”
  10. Insert the Racore D9335-000-C driver diskette in drive A and select “OK”.  This diskette can be downloaded from the Racore web site at http://www.racore.com/ethdrivers.php
  11. Highlight the “Racore OptiCORE Fiber Optic 100BaseFX Ethernet NIC” and click on “Next”
  12. In the “Start Device Driver Installation” box, click on “Next >”
  13. You will be warned that this driver does not have a digital signature from Microsoft, do you want to continue the installation?  Select “Yes”
  14. You will be returned to the “Upgrade Device Driver Wizard”,  with a message that “Windows has finished installing the software for this device” You must click on “Finish”
  15. You will then be returned to the “Racore OptiCORE Fiber Optic 100BaseFX Ethernet NIC Properties” box.  Select the “Advanced” tab.
  16. Under “Property:”, highlight “Connection Type”
  17. Under “Value:” select “100BaseFX Full Duplex” or “100BaseFX Half Duplex” to match the port on the hub or switch where the adapter is connected.  Hubs always use “100BaseFX Half Duplex”.
  18. Click “Close” on the “Racore OptiCORE Fiber Optic 100BaseFX Ethernet NIC Properties” dialog box
  19. Click “OK” on the “Local Area Connection Properties” dialog box.
  20. After a few moments, the “100Mbps” light should illuminate on the adapter, and the “Local Area Connection” icon in the “Network and Dial-Up Connections” should indicate a normal connection.
  21. Shut down and restart the system, and verify the “100Mbps” link light and “Activity” light on the adapter.
