USING RACORE TOKEN RING ADAPTERS WITH A SOUND BLASTER CARD Support Bulletin: 5250 Rev: B Abstract: This document explains the hardware conflict between Racore Token Ring adapters and Creative Labs Sound Blaster card. Explanation: The Creative Labs Sound Blaster card can cause a conflict with Racore Token Ring adapters. The Sound Blaster does not completely decode a 16-bit I/O address. Consequently when both cards are installed using factory defaults, the Racore card set to A20h and the Sound Blaster to 220h, the Sound Blaster reads both addresses as 220h. Setting the Racore card to A40h will resolve the conflict with all but one Racore card. Both addresses available to Racore model 8123, 0A20h and 1A20h, are decoded by the Sound Blaster as 220h. Setting the Sound Blaster card to a different I/O address, 240h or 260h, resolves the problem. _______________________________________________________ | HEXADECIMAL NUMBER | BINARY NUMBER | |--------------------|----------------------------------| | | Not Decoded | Decoded | |--------------------|---------------|------------------| | 220 | 0000 00 | 10 0010 0000 | |--------------------|---------------|------------------| | A20 | 0000 10 | 10 0010 0000 | |--------------------|---------------|------------------| | 1A20 | 0001 10 | 10 0010 0000 | |____________________|_______________|__________________|
