This document contains instructions on installing the Racore NDIS 3.0 Token-Ring driver with Windows for Workgroups v3.11. It also contains a supplement on excluding an adapters memory using both memory managers and Windows.

INSTALLING WINDOWS FOR WORKGROUPS WITH NDIS 3.0

1. Install the adapter card ensuring that there are no IRQ, DMA, or other conflicts.

At this point, it is a good idea to run the Racore diagnostic program, TR16DIAG.EXE, to ensure that the adapter card is functioning correctly and that there are no conflicts with other devices in the machine.

2. Install Windows for Workgroups by running SETUP.EXE from the Windows for Workgroups Diskette 1.

3. At the "Network Setup" window, select "Networks" and then choose the "Install Microsoft Windows Network" option. This should occur during disk 6 of the installation process.

4. From the "Advanced" option of the "Network Setup" window, choose "Drivers".

5. Choose "Add Adapter" in the "Network Drivers" dialog box.

6. From the list of network adapters, select "Unlisted Or Updated Network Adapter".

7. Insert the Racore Driver Diskette when prompted.

8. Choose the "Racore Token-Ring Card" card.

9. In the "Network Drivers" dialog box, choose "Close".

10. Choose "Continue" in the "Network Setup" dialog box.

11. Enter a "User Name", "Workgroup", and "Computer Name". Windows for Workgroups will now copy the network files to your hard disk.

12. When again prompted for the Racore Diskette, insert the diskette and enter the path where driver is located.

13. When the installation is complete, select the "Restart Your Computer" option.

NOTE: If your computer locks while booting or while Windows is loading, refer to the Excluding the Adapters Memory supplement below.

EXCLUDING THE ADAPTERS MEMORY

Exclude the adapters memory from both the memory manager and Windows for Workgroups.

A. Excluding the adapter memory using the memory manager varies with each memory manager product. The two most common memory managers are QEMM386, by Quarterdeck, and EMM386, the memory manager that ships with Windows and MS-DOS. Both of these products use the same switch to exclude the adapter memory, X=xxxx-yyyy where xxxx-yyyy is the memory range to be excluded.

B. Excluding the adapter memory using Windows is accomplished by adding the statement EMMEXCLUDE=xxxx-yyyy to the Windows configuration file, SYSTEM.INI. This parameter is placed in the 386 enhanced section of the SYSTEM.INI file. The SYSTEM.INI is located in the subdirectory containing the Windows files, typically C:\WINDOWS. As stated above, xxxx-yyyy is the memory range to be excluded.
